17 Warnings Signs That Your Career Has Stalled

17 Warnings Signs That Your Career Has Stalled We’ve all experienced that moment in our professional lives when we started our jobs full of enthusiasm and hoped that eventually we would work our way up the ladder to develop new skills, get better opportunities, compensations, and perks, only to realize that nothing has changed. Some workers don’t mind that and like things to be just the way they are and working with the colleagues and bosses that they’ve known for years. But as human beings, we have unlimited wants and according to the law of diminishing returns, our interest in doing something over and over will gradually decline until there’s nothing left. So in regards to that, you’d naturally want more out of life.If you’re the kind of employee that puts in all of their hours along with additional contributions hoping for a change and aren’t getting it, then that is a sure sign that your career is at a standstill. In fact, we’ve made a list of all the warning signs indicating that your growth in the office has b een stunted and presented ways how you can prevent them from doing so.1.  YOUR JOB ISNT CHALLENGING ENOUGHAccording to an urban legend, so to speak, employees are only happiest when they’re being bestowed challenges equating to their skill levels. And when the levels to those challenges drop, so do the interest of the employees.Rona Borre, who is both the founder and CEO of Instant Alliance, which is a Chicago-based staffing agency, says that you’ll know that your career is beginning to wane when the requirements of your job don’t put your skills to the test.Borre says that the cure to this dilemma is to hunt for opportunities that challenge your abilities. This can either be in the form of attending online classes after office hours, taking up and contributing additional responsibilities or volunteering to work on an external project.2.  YOUR SKILLS ARE TOO STANDARDGiven the age that we live in and how computers are omnipresent in just about any field out there, listing “Mi crosoft Office” as a skill on your resume is just dipping-into-the cookie-jar-kind of tactic that even a child can pull off. And if you’re applying for a tech company while doing this, you can forget about ever getting on board, much less ask for a promotion. What you would want to do instead is list only the most advanced and specialized jobs that help you stand out from the generic group of potential candidates. Get busy probing job listings that require particular skills that are in line with yours and list as many of those as you can on your resume.3.  YOUR BOSS IS HOLDING BACK ON THEIR PROMISE Nothing is more beguiling and damaging to an employee’s morale than knowing that the promotion your employer promised you of after reaching a certain target, was no longer being offered. If this isn’t a certain sign that you’re being held back like career coach April Klimkiewicz, owner of Bliss Evolution, says we don’t know what else is.April emphasizes that the perfect exampl e of this is when a company tells you that they are watching your amazing performance in an important project and that they have a promotion waiting for you upon its completion. After completing the project, you are told by many that it was great and that there are numerous positive changes ahead for the company just based on your performance. Everything seems to be going your way just fine and you are excited about your promotion until you are told that no one said anything about a promotion. After hearing about that, you feel slightly betrayed but still a bit optimistic knowing that it might take time for the organization to arrange your compensation. So you wait a bit longer only to have much more time pass you by.At this point, your suspicions and doubts about the company taking advantage of you start escalating further, so you set up a time to speak with your employer to get to the bottom of this problem. If your bosses continue to push the promotion back after contributing more o f your services to them or just refused to promote you, it may as well be time for you to look for an alternative company who not only value your skills and services but also deliver their promises right there and then.4.  YOURE NO LONGER GROWINGIt’s one thing to know that your bosses are dragging your skills along the way without rewarding you for it, but if you’re not growing simply because you’re not making an effort to expand your repertoire with new skills and expertise, then you have no one to blame for that except yourself. You can’t expect to say that you’re being held back if you’re not making an effort to show your company that you can handle other responsibilities. So to fix this, make time to look into the skills that are needed in the job that you really want and start learning and practicing them.Whether it involves reading books, attending conferences, taking up online courses or tutorials, it will be more beneficial for you in the long run, especially if yo u can persuade your company with your new skills.5. YOURE NO LONGER GETTING HIGH-PROFILE TASKS AS YOU ONCE DIDRemember the time your supervisors used to offer you a cut of the bigger projects and now they don’t?If you don’t know about it know, you may eventually come to realize that you’re slowly losing the opportunities you were promised and that your colleagues are the ones who are making the cut. And when that happens, you’ll know for a fact that you’re going nowhere in the proverbial corporate ladder.Laura Small, who operates the Santa Monica-based ad agency RPA, says that your supervisor may assume that you’re already working at a very high level and if you aren’t getting high-profile assignments, it may be because you’re not where you need to be.So instead, you should start coming up with your own reach projects as Laura suggests. By coming up with something that is of value to the company, you will not only showcase what you can do with your current skill set but also what you capable of accomplishing in the future.6. YOURE DEALING WITH BLOCKERS There are times when you have to deal with people who are just too stubborn to acknowledge the work you do for them and which you may have little or no control over. The blocker could be your boss, and if they’re not willing to change, don’t expect any change for yourself either. Sometimes, the blocker can also be the founder or CEO.Whatever the case may be, the point is to identify these blockers and contemplate whether you wish to stay put and wait for them to be removed (if possible), or just take your ball and look for other places and opportunities where your growth isn’t hitting a plateau.7. THE INDUSTRY IS THE PROBLEMIn some circumstances, employees have no responsibility or control of their careers being stalled. A common example of this is when an industry is going through a stagnant season, or perhaps, it is experiencing a steep decline. When it comes to situations such as these, yo ur options are pretty much limited, says Alex Robinson, general manager of Team Building Hero. Robinson elaborates that certain businesses hit their peak when the market is small or that it’s already saturated with competition. And when this happens, the company is incapable of growing itself, or more specifically, providing employees with growth opportunities. At this point, you have two options: you can either stay and become the beacon of hope for your company or seek out a faster-growing company, even if it could be in another industry.8.  YOU DO NOT REFLECT THE COMPANY CULTUREThere may be times when you’re career can’t get past the roadblock because you’re incompatible with the culture of the company you’re in. It could be that you’re either too laid back (or not enough) to fit in with a company.Or maybe you don’t acknowledge the wrong in constructive criticism and the rest are all just nonsensical yes men.The only obvious course of action with a company like that i s to look for another whose culture doesn’t mind your character or traits. It may also be that you don’t fit in at work because you’re just not happy there at all.9.  YOUR TEAM ISNT WORKING TOGETHER TO MEET THEIR GOALSJohn Hillen, co-author of What Happens Now? Reinvent Yourself as a Leader Before Your Business Outruns You, says that after a team’s successful accomplishment, they begin to act like freelancers who are only concerned with their own departments and don’t agree on priorities or strategies.John goes on to say that the single most critical factor in a high-performing team’s success involves having a shared understanding of why they exist, what they’re trying to accomplish and how well they work together.Hillen suggests that to bump out this problem, you and your teammates must hold frequent meetings or off-sites to produce team-enlightenment. Try to create team ‘rules of engagement’ and have each team member (including you) accountable for those rules. B e sure to be overt about the culture that binds the team together.10.  YOURE NOT NETWORKINGGetting ahead in a company involves talking to the right people, which also involves having them know about you. This involves networking with both the people of your company and those outside of it. Use the extra time other than the one you invest in your daily responsibilities to get to know the people around you.Learn whatever you can about them and ask if they need any assistance on what they’re doing. Establish relationships with those people along the way so that when the time finally comes for that long-awaited promotion, they will be able to recognize your name when they get ahold of your resume.11.  YOU DONT WANT TO GET BETTERThis problem could be a mix of more than one factor. If your career is being stalled because you don’t want to take on new challenges for yourself that can help you advance further up the ladder, something much deeper must be involved.Dr. Andrew Selepak, who i s a professor in the Department of Telecommunications at the University of Florida, says that your career stalling is simply a matter of motivation. He adds that it is always better to look for new ways to do your job better and look for something new to do as well. This usually means learning more and trying to keep up with new things.Nobody wants to be laid back in what they do and keep themselves from getting better at what they already good at.12.  YOURE PASSIVESometimes you can’t get ahead in your career because no one in the company knows that you want to. You did not make an effort to get out of your comfort zone and ask for a promotion, a pay bump or anything else.Don’t just wait for the promotion or raise to fall into your lap, especially if your company keeps track of more than one employee, task or project.Being patient and wanting to prove yourself in the beginning stages is one thing, but it’s never a good idea to just sit back and wait for something to happen when things aren’t going anywhere. Don’t hesitate to let your boss know that you want to move up. Many, if not all companies want their employees to better themselves, even if it helps moves the company’s overall level of production up just a bit.13.  YOU HATE YOUR WORKYes, there are times when we seriously question “What am I even doing here?” If you’re not at all engaged with what you’re doing or passionate about it, then there is no hope of you getting ahead in your career. And if that’s the kind of mentality that always comes to mind whenever you go to work, then there’s no other solution but walking of the company or thinking long and hard about a career change.Or if you feel like it, you could pinpoint the parts of your job that you like and those you loathe. Perhaps there is a related area that is more to your liking. Try seeing if it’s possible to shift your job responsibilities, otherwise, you should think about getting a new line of work.14.  YOURE BECOMING IRRELEVANT DUE TO A MERGERCompany buyouts or relocations are unfortunate but that’s only because the company failed to reach their target goals or profits consistently for months. If and when that is the case, then you best be prepared for such an event.Patrick Holder, a talent acquisition manager at business management consultants Candid Partners, says that you have to be on the lookout for when a company goes through a merger or acquisition, moves its location to another town or state or just goes into a direction that you won’t be a part of.James Stanger, chief technology evangelist for CompTIA, says that even valued employees end up getting replaced because the dominant company has similar workers. If you’re not satisfied with your current gig, then think of ways that will bring you more happiness.Try focusing on developing skills that your business needs, even if incorporating them into your current skill set would take some time. But as long as you set a goal that is in l ine with your business and take baby steps toward it, you’ll actually be surprised at how fast you can come to a fantastic place.15.  YOURE NOT WILLING TO SWITCH COMPANIESWe discussed earlier how you should consider making a career change if and when there is no hope of you advancing upwards. But there are times we get stuck in one company because there are no other alternatives or because we just like the position we have and are not willing to switch companies anytime soon.Still, if you ever change your mind, just know that there are options especially if the job you’re qualified for has a large market to it.16.  YOUR PERFORMANCE IS DETERIORATINGNot improving at your job is another reason your career is where it is still. It’s just common sense. If your performance hasn’t changed in the last year or so, then why would your employer even bother to promote you? You may choose to keep the status quo if you’re alright with it, but it’s not going to get you ahead in your co mpany.Look for ways where you can improve the performance of your job. But don’t overcommit to work on a daily basis or keep yourself from taking a vacation. All you have to do, is focus on the areas where you’re already good at and magnify your performance around those.17.  YOU FOCUS TOO MUCH ON YOURSELFKeep in mind that the most successful executives around the world are team players, so if you also want to acquire that position, then you have to be one yourself. It’s time to stop focusing on how you can get ahead and leave everyone else out in the dust, when you should be focusing on helping your team reach its goal.

Analysis of The Charge Of The Light Brigade by Alfred Lord...

Analysis of The Charge Of The Light Brigade by Alfred Lord Tennyson The second poem I an going to analyse is The Charge Of The Light Brigade, it is about the Crimean War. It is a famous Regiment of 600 men. The poem was written by Alfred Lord Tennyson. The poem was based on a newspaper account describing a battle. The article glorified the slaughter of men. The commander didnt understand the orders given to him to replace some guns held by the Russians and he sent them up the wrong valley. All that had happened is someone had blundered even the soldiers knew that. On the first two lines the repetition of half a leagueis getting the poem into a rhythm of galloping horses, This adds†¦show more content†¦Forward the light brigade, this is direct speech and into the valley of death is where Tennyson is slowly building up repitition. On the second verse the second line is the most relevant one in this verse was their a man dismayed? this is a rhetorical question as it is obvious the soldier wouldnt be dismayed because the job as a soldier is but to do and die this is how a soldiers response would be as it is their duty to just do as they are told. Verse 3 is all about the battle commencing as it tells us all the noises of battle. Cannon to the left and right, Volleyed and thundered refer to the sound of cannons, a noise that would confuse or scare someone but not these soldiers although they are stormed at with shot and shellthey still ride on boldly. The use of alliteration adds to the feeling of noise and confusion. The image of face with a mouth represents the valley into which the soldiers are riding again this image should scare some people but not these brave soldiers who are willing to lay down their lives for their country. In verse 4 the start of the first and second lines start with flashed and this is repeated to show a glorious idea of light turning the sabres and killing the opposition. Sabering the gunners there, it sounds as if the British were winning the battle but they were not. The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn By Mark Twain - 1065 Words

H.L. Mencken once said, â€Å"I believe that Huckleberry Finn is one of the great masterpieces of the world. . .†. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn written by Mark Twain is a great American novel about the life of Huck Finn. Huck is a boy without a real family and the son of the town’s outcast and drunk. In the book, Huck ends up attempting to free Jim, a black slave. During Huck’s journey down the Mississippi river, three meaningful subjects are explored in education, religion, and civilized society that are still relevant today. Mark Twain uses several situations in the story to display the power of education. When the King and the Duke attempt to steal the deceased Peter Wilks’ money as his pretend brothers, the only one who sees†¦show more content†¦Education holds just as much power today as it did then. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, high school dropouts make $20,241 a year on average. On the other hand, those who graduate hi gh school make $36,424 per year on average and those with a bachelor s degree make even more. The power is quite obviously with the educated. High school and college graduates also have a much easier time finding a job during economic hardship. The Department of Education states that dropouts have a poverty rate of 30.8 percent while the part of our population with a bachelor s degree only experiences a 13.5 percent rate. As a result of education, people are able to live a much more comfortable life and have a bigger impact on society. Education is mighty. The legendary author, Mark Twain, exposes the faults in the religion of the time and those who profess to be religious. Twain often uses Huck to put it in perspective. Huck goes to church with the Grangerfords, who are currently in a bloody feud with their neighbors the Sheperdsons. Huck describes it as . . . pretty ornery preaching-all about brotherly love(139). Both families say that it was good sermon. Yet, the next d ay they kill each other off during their family feud. Twain effectively demonstrates the hypocrisy in religions everywhere at that time. Another time, a religious congregation blindly trusts the King,

Each individual record is represented as a row, and each attribute as a column. Entity types are related to each other using  1:N  mappings, also known as  one-to-many  relationships. This model is recognized as the first database model created by IBM in the 1960s. The  network structure  consists of more complex relationships. Unlike the hierarchical structure, it can relate to many records and accesses them by following one of several paths. In other words, this structure allows for many-to-many relationships. The  network model  is a  database model  conceived as a flexible way of representing objects and their relationships. Its distinguishing feature is that the schema, viewed as a graph in which object types are nodes and relationship types are arcs, is not restricted to being a hierarchy or lattice. This structure is popular formultimedia  Web-based applications. It was designed to work with object-oriented programming languages such as  Java. The dominant model in use today is the ad hoc one embedded in  SQL, despite the objections of purists who believe this model is a corruption of the relational model since it violates several fundamental principles for the sake of practicality and performance. Many DBMSs also support the  Open Database Connectivity  API  that supports a standard way for programmers to access the DBMS. Before the database management approach, organizations relied on file processing systems to organize, store, and process data files. End users criticized file processing because the data is stored in many different files and each organized in a different way. Each file was specialized to be used with a specific application. File processing was bulky, costly and inflexible when it came to supplying needed data accurately and promptly. Data redundancy is an issue with the file processing system because the independent data files produce duplicate data so when updates were needed each separate file would need to be updated. Another issue is the lack of data integration. The data is dependent on other data to organize and store it.

Afterwards the interventions related to the company were well defined and specific issues were identified so that the problems could be resolved on the basis of priority. Thereby the specific interventions were selected and examined; decentralisation and strategic interventions were chosen to improve the condition of the organisation. For that sake the strategy and structure aspect was given the priority. At the end, the necessary implementation was recommended and action research model was selected to perform the action and implement the selected changes and interventions. In nutshell, the organisational development is the combination of employee satisfaction, organisational strategy, culture and structure. If the appropriate concern is paid on these attributes most of the problems are likely to get resolved and the staff becomes resistant to changes which results in the overall development of the employees and organisation. Issues with B.R. Richardson Timber Products Corporation and its impact B.R. Richardson is the president of the company and Richard Bowman I the industrial relationship officer. He assists in building up the relations among the industries. Lawler had mastered in managing the training and development consulting reputation. The issue that arouse was theres a need for the motivational session to be conducted in the organisation specifically for the blue collar employees. This is because the environment within the plant was less morale and the fatality was noted in the surroundings. Also there was an issue in relation to the plant manager. He carried the bossy nature and was authoritative which could have become the hurdle in solving the motivational issues. Another problem is that everything within the organisation is connected with one another; a discrepancy in one section automatically affects the other portions as well (Dupray, Guillemot Melnik-Olive, 2017). In one or the other section there occurs the issues related to setting up of goal, constructing the mission and the strategies to be adopted are not clear to the plant manager. Even the machinery used in the timber plant was out dated and the manager was not bothered about it. Such ignorance might result in the severe accidents and injuries to the workers working over the machinery. The workers were not allotted the specific role to perform, they report to the superior cross-functionally (Woody, 2014). Company should specify the designation to make the situation clearer. Another major problem that occurred was the depletion of the resources, the allocation of resources is inappropriate and this results in imbalance in nature and its natural resources. Mission and vision of the organisation is also not clear which affects the objective of the company. The directions are not clear and in such a case there are chances that the value of the business is lost (Baumgartner Rauter, 2017). Since the plant has been established there is a need for certain advancement in terms of technol ogy, but in the B.R. Richards Timber Products Corporation the technology is not as per the standard. There occurs the technological intercession which imbalances the structure of the organisation and affects the quality of the product within the organisation. If such circumstance continues it will adversely affect the development of the company (Usrpudlia, 2017). Resolving the interventions On analysing the issues and its impact the resolution need to be driven. It was seen that organizational structure of the company was weak and the leadership qualities are lacking in the plant manager. Though the manager was authoritative yet the required leadership styles were not there. For this concern the appropriate training session must be organised where lessons to deal with the human resources should be rendered. Even the staff must be given timely training so that adequate working takes place and specialisation is gained. For the sake of conducting the training program T-groups must be created, these groups renders training to the managers so that they could handle the organisational behaviour and solve the employee grievances (Harinck Druckman, 2017). The technological advancement must be promoted so that innovations and modifications could take place. This helps in maintaining the standards and building up the positive position in the market so that the company could stan d along with the competitors and market value gets increased. Also the plant manager must focus on building relationship among the employees and peers it will not only strengthen his very position but also develops a sense of belongingness among the peers, superior and subordinate. For this sake team building must be opted and they must be given the common goal to fulfil. This will help the employees to know each other in a better way and the hidden potential of the person gets reflected in the team work (Sylvester et al, 2017). Another way to resolve the interventions are the process consultation. It diagnoses the situation and assists in improvising the behaviour of employees. Through process consultation the staffs wisely uses the resources and solves the interpersonal issues occurring within the organisation. This interpersonal problem often creates a barrier in resolving the work related circumstances. Also there is a need for self-development as well (Kumpfer, Magalhaes Xie, 2017). Most of the problems could be resolved if self-development has been encouraged. It not only solves the personal problems but also analyses the issues within any organisation and take a font to solve them by their own so that it do not get elongated to create the issue. For that first of all the formal training is needed as discussed earlier. The proportion in which this training is divided is 70/20/10. The 70 percent feedback is the outcome of learning the etiquettes of being good at their position and how the person treats their job, 20 percent feedback is relevant to the role model of the person and to what extent have they imitated their values and qualities and lastly, 10 percent feedback is through the formal training which could be in the classroom manner, on the job and off the job training (Waddell, 2017). Selecting the intervention and justifying the appropriateness The best intervention that needs to be selected is elimination of the decision making hierarchy. Basically it is known as Decentralisation, where the responsibilities and authorities are delegated to the employees and they are made independent to take certain limited decision at their own level. This manner the confidence among the employees is developed. They feel to be the important part of the organisation and these results in increasing the connectivity of the staff within the company. The suggestions and ideas of the employees are valued and organisational commitment increases along with the employee engagement. It is not only beneficial aspect from the view point of the employee but also from the organisation perspective because employees are those who hold one on one interaction with the customers and they actually face the external market area (Takai Kumar, 2017). They know the choice, trend; fashion and tastes of the consumers. The consumer behaviour could be better analyse d by the lower level employees and they might access the competition prevailing in the outer world within domestic boundaries and even the cut throat competition beyond the boundaries (Nematollahi, Hosseini-Motlagh Heydari, 2017). The position of the company globally could be evaluated and accordingly the future steps might be inculcated. This build up the healthy relations in the company and the internal environment gets strengthened and the employer employee relationship also develops with the passing time. The decentralisation approach led to the incoming of new varieties of ideas and suggestions which could result in innovation of the out of the box techniques. This policy not only helps in modifications but also builds up the unique image in the external environment and set up the level of competition to the distinct extent thereby becoming the trend setter within the industry. Though at the end final decision is taken by the top management only but the ideas, views and opinio ns shared by the employees are highly valued and this also helps the top management to invest this particular time in something more crucial and effective in terms of the organisational development as a whole (Schoenlaub, 2015). Also along with the elimination of decision making hierarchy the strategic intervention could also be chosen as one of the intervention that might bring about good results. The strategic intervention states the implementation of necessary changes in an organisation and the relationship of the organisation with the outer world. Such an intervention might lead to the merger and acquisition or opening up of the new venture or undergo the joint venture. The expansion of the company in the domestic as well as international market takes place and along with the increased market the competition also gets widen up and strict. The competitors become aware of the new strategy and they might imitate the policy (Coleman, Sorensen, Yaeger Hinchrus, 2017). Therefore before the launch of competitors the urgent steps must be taken by the company to introduce their very own schemes and set the trend within the market area. When the new strategies are launched in the national and international market the relationship with the stakeholders also get build up and moreover the chain of people grows with the growing business which is overall the positive symbol for the company for the future development. Along with the varieties of strategies the structure of the organisation must also be changed to introduce newness and making the staff and other members resistant to the changes that are taking place and are likely to take place in the near future. The organisational structure also affects the organisational culture and thereby the entire organisational development takes place with the invention and modification of the organisational strategies and structure (Wolfenden et al, 2017). Actions to be implemented for organisational success The two intervention strategies have been discussed in the earlier section. Firstly the decision making right to be handed over to the employees to an extent and their ideas were welcomed by the top management. Second important intervention that could be opted was the strategic intervention where the expansion of business and relations among the peers were developed. To make this strategy a big hit and successful in the external environment certain important actions need to be adopted and implemented in a wise manner so that desired success could be gained (Reynolds, 2017). Systematic approach towards the problem solving: In order to develop the internal mechanism the action research model could be used this helps in improving the organisations preparation and positively reciprocating to the prevailing and upcoming dynamism. The action research model follows step by step approach and the organisational development takes place in the professional manner and the competitive skills are improvised. Employing the learning culture: The learning of the organisational culture develops the functioning of the organisation and challenges grows up and along with the growing challenges the alternatives to deal with these challenges also rises as the divergent ideas from the management and staff are collected and the one best alternative is selected and implemented to achieve the desired goal (Huda et al, 2017). Facilitating the collaboration: The agents responsible for changing the environment get collaborated to resolve the issues by identifying the problem and dealing with it as per the priority. The mutual trust is developed and the confidence among the people are developed which are not possible in the case of authoritative style of leadership which the plant manager has opted (Watanabe, 2017). Conclusion Hence from the entire report it could be cultivated that B.R. Richard who is the president of B.R. Richardson Timber Products Corporation was at the view that the issues prevailing within the organisation are resolved and for that sake Bowman was appointed to deal with the relationship within the organisation. On the orders of Richard, Bowman contacted Lawler to design the best motivational plan for the organisation because the scenario was deteriorating due to the authoritative style adopted by the plant manager. After analysing the case study certain questions were answered to clarify the situation. Initially the prevailing issues within the organisation were developed and necessary changes were discussed. The impacts of these issues over the organisation were elucidated. Secondly, the areas of the issues were specified and the particular interventions were given importance so that better resolution could be drafted. Thirdly, the particularly selected interventions were focussed an d thee interventions were adoption of decentralisation approach and strategic intervention. Both the aspects were crucially discussed keeping in mind the strategy and structure of the organisation that matters a lot. Lastly, the action necessary to implement to derive the success were investigated and for that sake the action research model was selected which not only solves the problem but also lead the organisation to the very different level. The caravan has everything that a normal middle class family would have at their home and shows that Gwen doesn’t want any change on her holiday as her caravan is a replica of her home. Later a storm comes and destroys her caravan thus destroying her status and forcing her into change. Each family member wants the best for each other but this causes each person to suffer alone and stopping them in consoling each other. Tom wants his parents to believe that he does not know of the disease in order to make them happy, but this choice has lead him to suffering alone with his disease. They show their awkward relationship through duologues as each family member want the best for each other and their conversations are awkward, as tom knows that his parents are lying to him so he is constantly trying to avoid conversations with them. An example of their relationship is through this duologue; Harry: â€Å"when you have kids you’ll know what I’m talking about. † Tom: â€Å"Come on dad you’re getting tired† The conflict that each individual is having, not being able to tell the truth instead dealing with it inside, shows that inner conflict can cause great pain to an individual. In the film 10 Things I Hate About You, directed by Gil Junger, Patrick Verona, a rebellious teenager, experiences a struggle wether to tell his girlfriend Kat that he was given money to date her and thus risk his relationship with her. The technique showed is irony as he continues accepting bribes even though he has said that he has fallen in love with her. The following duologue is an example of this; KAT: â€Å"Really? What was it like? A down payment now and then a bonus for sleeping with me?

Medical Ethics and Euthanasia free essay sample

The mere act of euthanasia represents the most gentle and painless way of terminating a persons life in order to relieve them from their suffering. This term itself is derived from the Greek word euthanatos, which literally means easy death. In many cases, it is carried out at the persons request, but there are times when they may be too ill and the decision has to be made by relatives, medics or, in some instances, the courts. Deciding whether to euthanise a person or not is one of the ost difficult questions concerning not only practical, but also religious and ethical matters. However, people should choose euthanasia because it can help the patient by relieving his/her pain and suffering, it can reduce economic costs and provide human resources for other people suffering from curable diseases, and it helps the sick persons family to overcome the loss without much pain. We will write a custom essay sample on Medical Ethics and Euthanasia or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page One of the first and most important reasons for choosing euthanasia is definitely the act of relieving a persons suffering. Family members all over the world usually choose euthanasia in order to save their loved one suffering from a terminal illness or incurable condition, from further pain and suffering. In most cases the patients themselves give their consent to euthanasia, which is considered to be the act of voluntary euthanasia. Besides voluntary there is non-voluntary euthanasia, also known as mercy killing, which is performed only when a person is in a persistent vegetative state and cannot make a decision on his/her own. This means that the amily has to give their consent to euthanasia instead of the patient. Even though the question raises many debates including ethics, morality and religion, the only purpose of euthanasia should be to prevent a person from living in an irreversible coma, constantly taking pain relievers. Taking into consideration the states the patients are usually in, deciding to euthanise them is the right thing to do. In addition to this, it is a fact that many countries are dealing with a shortage of hospital space and medical personnel. In other words, keeping someone alive affects not only the lives of the patients and their families, but also the lives of other people who could be saved instead of continuing the lives of those who cannot recover. Furthermore, to keep people alive past the point they can take care of themselves and live normal lives has no purpose, for the resources used for their treatments could be spent on treating people who are suffering from curable diseases. All in all, euthanasia is a good choice which helps many people in many different ways. On top of all this, euthanasia should be performed in order to help the family overcome the loss of their loved one more quickly. Even though the family is in contact with the patient and always by his/her side, the pain and suffering that person feels during a disease can be absolutely incomprehensible to those who have not gone through it. The family feels helpless because they can do nothing to help and reduce the amount of pain the person is feeling. To lose a family member is one of the hardest things a person can experience, and if this can be reduced by uthanising the patient, it should be done. As it can be seen, euthanasia actually represents a humane deed which can help many people. It is an act of not only relieving the patients pain and suffering, but also a way of reducing the shortage of economic costs and medical personnel and a way of helping the patients family overcome the loss of their loved one. So, the act of euthanasia should not be considered as killing a person or ending a life by force, but as a way of giving a person a chance to be relieved from never ending pain and suffering.

The Art of Life essays

The Art of Life essays , The Open Boat, is a tale of heroic proportion following the story of four castaways on a lifeboat in the ocean. As we saw in Cranes previous works, the characters are merely atypical, run-of-the-mill, working-class men. To emphasize the plainness of his characters, Crane fails to even name all but one of his crew. The anecdote traces the travel of four men, the oiler, the cook, the corespondent, and the captain of the sunken vessel. The story captivates readers and takes them on a trip of crashing waves, deadly sharks, hardships at sea and grueling pain through which the four men go through. Defying death many times over, the castaways battle past hunger and fight for sanity on the trip to land. Cranes naturalistic writing takes flight as our four friends struggle against nature and all she has to throw at them, as the sea carelessly tosses their boat around. Yet amongst all the hardships they endeavor, their heroism takes charge. We see this in their constant chant to boost morale : If I am going to be drowned if I am going to be drowned if I am going to be drowned, why, in the name of the seven mad gods, who rule the sea, was I allowed to come thus far and contemplate sand and trees? Cranes point is yet again taken into consideration. When the ship goes down, four average, non-heroic characters are saved. Yet, when ordinary people are put upon to perform extraordinary feats, heroes are produced. Stephen Crane was a magnificent author with determination and morals in his heart. He wrote these stories in hope that people find heroes within their average selves. All of his characters were intruders in the land of heroism, yet all were considered literary heroes. He emphasized that you do not have to be Hercules to have super-human strength. You do not have to be a fighter to win a fight. You do not have to defy death to be classified a hero. You do not have to be a hero, to be a hero. Heroism comes fro...
